Bay Health
Chris Willrich has been named CEO of Bay Health, a joint venture between UC-San Francisco Medical Center and John Muir Health.
Willrich previously served as regional vice president of strategy and business development at Sutter Health (Rauber, "Bay Area BizTalk," San Francisco Business Times, 9/17).
California Department of Health Care Services
On Aug. 31, Gov. Jerry Brown (D) made two appointments to the California Department of Health Care Services:
- Lindy Rose Harrington (D) as deputy director of health care financing; and
- Adam Weintraub, as assistant deputy director.
The positions do not require Senate confirmation. Compensation is $136,308 for Harrington and $86,952 for Weintraub (Office of the Governor release, 8/31).
California Department of Veterans Affairs
On Sept. 18, Brown appointed Vito Imbasciani (D) as secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs.
The position requires Senate confirmation, and compensations is $188,451 (Office of the Governor release, 9/18).
California Health and Human Services Agency
On Sept. 16, Brown appointed Douglas Press (D) as general counsel at the California Health and Human Services Agency.
The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $168,324 (Office of the Governor release, 9/16).
Doctors Hospital of Manteca
Ikenna Mmeje has been named CEO of Doctors Hospital of Manteca.
Mmeje previously served as COO of Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo (Kahl, Manteca Bulletin, 9/1).
Google Life Sciences
Thomas Insel, director of the National Institute of Mental Health, will join Google Life Sciences in Mountain View.
Insel will step down from his role at NIHM in November (Carey, New York Times, 9/15).
Seton Medical Center
John Ferrelli has been named president and CEO of Seton Medical Center.
Ferrelli, who previously served as chief administrative officer at USC Norris Cancer Hospital, replaces Joanne Allen, who retired on Sept. 18 (Daughters of Charity Release, 9/1).
L.A. Care Health Plan
On Sept. 10, L.A. Care Health Plan announced that it appointed Mark Gamble as chair of its board of governors.
Gamble is senior vice president and COO of the Hospital Association of Southern California (L.A. Care Health Plan release, 9/10).
San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority
On Aug. 31, Brown appointed Jim Wunderman (D) to the San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority's board of directors.
The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $100 per diem (Office of the Governor release, 8/31).
Sharp Grossmont Hospital
Nancy Greengold has been named CMO of Sharp Grossmont Hospital.
Greengold previously worked as vice president of clinical integration at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena (Sharp Grossmont release, 9/18).
Stanford Children's Health, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford
Kelly Johnson has been named chief nursing officer and vice president of patient-care services at Stanford Children's Health and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford, effective Nov. 2.
Johnson previously served as senior vice president, chief nursing officer and chair of pediatric nursing at Children's Hospital of Colorado in Aurora (Rubenfire, Modern Healthcare, 9/28).
Stanford Health Care
Amir Dan Rubin will step down from his position as CEO of Stanford Health Care at the end of 2015 (Rubenfire, Modern Healthcare, 9/24).
According to Stanford, Rubin will serve as executive vice president of UnitedHealth Group's information technology subsidiary, Optum (Rauber, "Bay Area BizTalk," San Francisco Business Times, 9/24).
Sutter Independent Physicians
David Herbert has been named CEO of Sutter Independent Physicians, effective Nov. 16. He replaces Ralph Koldinger, who has served as president and CEO since 1994.
Herbert is chief of infectious diseases and director of critical care at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in Sacramento (Glover, Sacramento Bee, 9/4).
UC-Davis Medical Center
On Aug. 31, Ann Boynton joined UC-Davis Medical Center help CEO Ann Madden Rice develop strategies to address health plan contracts and reimbursement.
Boynton previously was deputy executive director of CalPERS' health benefits program (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 9/3).
Veterans Home of California, Fresno
On Aug. 31, Brown appointed Lawrence Imperial, as skilled nursing facility administrator for the Veterans Home of California, Fresno.
The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $105,000.
Veterans Home of California, Barstow.
On Aug. 31, Brown appointed James Sullivan as administrator of the Veterans Home of California, Barstow.
The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $122,388 for Sullivan (Office of the Governor release, 8/31).
Veterans Home of California, West Los Angeles
On Sept. 2 Brown made three appointments to the Veterans Home of California, West Los Angeles:
- Peter Kim (R), as deputy administrator;
- Julian Manalo (D), as administrator; and
- Donna Santos (R), as skilled nursing facility administrator.
The positions do not require Senate confirmation. Compensation is $122,796 for Kim, $146,412 for Manalo and $117,000 for Santos (Office of the Governor release, 9/2).
Yolo County Department of Health & Human Services
Ron Chapman, former California director of public health, has been named health officer of Yolo County.
Chapman succeeds Constance Caldwell, who has retired (Caiola, Sacramento Bee, 9/15).
