California Leads Nation in Top-Rated Nursing Homes
More than 400 California nursing homes in 2014 received five-star ratings under a federal quality rating system -- the most of any state, according to rankings by U.S. News & World Report, the Sacramento Business Journal reports.
The highly rated facilities account for about 33% of the state's 1,268 total nursing homes.

Facilities on the list were ranked using data from CMS' Nursing Home Compare website (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 2/27). The ratings include nearly 16,000 nursing homes across the U.S.
The U.S. News & World Report list includes information on:
- Care;
- Safety;
- Health inspections;
- Staffing; and
- Other factors.
Facilities that received a five-star rating were named "Best Nursing Homes" by U.S. News & World Report.
Nationwide, 25% of nursing homes received a five-star rating, up from 19% in 2013 (U.S. News & World Report release, 2/26).
