California Medical Association Elects Fremont Gastroenterologist as President Beginning in 2006
Dr. Anmol Mahal, a Fremont gastroenterologist, this month was elected president of the California Medical Association at the annual CMA House of Delegates meeting in Anaheim, the Oakland Tribune reports. Mahal, who is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, will become president of CMA in 2006.
Mahal has served as chief of staff of Washington Hospital in Fremont, as well as chair and vice chair of the CMA board of trustees. Mahal served on the CMA board of trustees for nine years. Mahal also served on the American Medical Association Commission To End Health Disparities and is a founding member, past president and board member of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin of Northern California.
In a statement, Mahal said that he supports the expansion of health care access to all state residents. "With improving technology and better tools and techniques, a golden age of medicine lies in the future for Californians," he said, adding, "The challenge for the health care system is to find the resources so that all Californians can get timely and equal access to health care" (Oakland Tribune, 3/31).
