California Stem Cell Agency Board Names Two to Vice Chair Role
On Thursday, the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine's governing board appointed Duane Roth and Art Torres as vice chairs of the committee, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Roth is head of Connect, a San Diego group that provides support services to startup technology firms (Somers, San Diego Union-Tribune, 3/13). Roth also is chair and CEO of Alliance Pharmaceuticals.
He will not accept a salary for the part-time position with CIRM (Bailey, Los Angeles Times, 3/13).
Torres is the outgoing chair of the California Democratic Party and a former state senator (San Diego Union-Tribune, 3/13). Torres will accept an annual salary of $75,000 (Leuty, San Francisco Business Times, 3/12).
The appointment came after the board first approved splitting the vice chair position into two spots (Los Angeles Times, 3/13).
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) tapped Roth for the spot, while Lt. Gov. John Garamendi (D), Treasurer Bill Lockyer (D) and Controller John Chiang (D) nominated Torres (San Diego Union-Tribune, 3/13).
