CalPERS Considering Bids From Four Health Insurers for Contract
Four health plans have submitted bids for a contract to administer health insurance benefits for as many as one-third of the public employees who receive benefits through CalPERS, the Sacramento Bee reports.Â
The health plans are:
- Blue Shield of California, which currently holds the contract;
- Aetna;
- Anthem Blue Cross; and
- Health Net.
The winner of the contract will compete with Kaiser Permanente to administer health care services to CalPERS members (Calvan, Sacramento Bee, 3/31).
A Phase 2 request for proposals will be issued in April, and a final decision is expected to be made in November. The contract will begin Jan. 1, 2011 (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 3/30).
