CalPERS Developing New Pilot Program To Assist in Diabetes Management
CalPERS is partnering with Blue Shield of California, Raley's pharmacies and UC-San Francisco's School of Pharmacy to launch a new pilot program for diabetes management, the Sacramento Business Journal reports.
The one-year Pharmacist Care for Diabetes program will seek to help CalPERS members with type 2 diabetes better control their condition.
Blue Shield plans to recruit around 1,300 members to participate in the initiative.
Under the program, CalPERS members with type 2 diabetes who meet certain criteria will be able to meet with specially trained pharmacists to discuss medication and self-management techniques. Participants will be able to attend five scheduled visits with pharmacists, who will coordinate with the patient's physician (Anderson, Sacramento Business Journal, 7/15).
