CHW: Health Care System Names New Chief Financial Officer
Catholic Healthcare West yesterday named Michael Blaszyk as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Currently the CFO and senior vice president at the Cleveland, Ohio-based University Hospitals Health System, Blaszyk will assume his new post on Jan. 2, 2001. As CFO of UHHS, Blaszyk assisted in the "financial turnaround" of the organization through medical management, new initiatives in patient care, and supply chain and group purchasing initiatives. Blaszyk served as the CFO at Boston Medical Center from 1988-1994 and was a managing partner of the Northeast Region Health Care Provider Consulting Practice for William M. Mercer, where he helped with the annual development and publishing of the "100 Top Performing Hospitals -- Benchmarks for Success." Blaszyk said, "I am excited to have the opportunity to take a senior leadership role with one of the largest not-for-profit health care systems in the country. I welcome the opportunity to assist in addressing the complex and financial issues facing CHW and to participate in designing a highly efficient and successful organization." CHW CEO Lloyd Dean said, "[Blaszyk] brings to Catholic Healthcare West unique and essential talents in financial management, operational leadership and financial turnaround. These skills will assist us in becoming a premier health care organization." Blaszyk is replacing Jack Burgis, who retired June 30 (CHW release, 10/23).
