COLLECTIVE BARGAINING: AMA Ad Calls for More Leverage
Under the headline "Why are insurance companies given such absolute powers?" a full-page American Medical Association advertisement in today's Washington Times offers an argument in favor of legislation proposed by Reps. Tom Campbell (R-CA) and John Conyers (D-MI) that would allow self-employed physicians to collectively bargain. "It's time to level the playing field" with HR 1304, the ad says, asking, "Should a physician be forced to sign a contract that":
- "Prevents you from learning everything you need to know about your treatment options?"
- "Prevents you from seeing the specialist your doctor recommends?"
- "Prevents you from receiving the prescribed medication your doctor thinks is best for you?"
- "Limits you to the least costly treatment option?"
