COLUMBIA: Sells 34 Surgery Centers To HealthSouth
Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp. announced today a definitive agreement to sell 34 ambulatory surgery centers to Birmingham, AL-based HealthSouth for $550 million in cash. Most of the centers are located in the South, Midwest, and California, primarily in locales where Columbia does not have hospitals or other services. The agreement is part of a restructuring plan announced in November in which the company began to divest itself of certain assets. The transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 1998, pending regulatory approvals (Columbia release, 4/16).
