Compromise Benefits Pharmacists, Customers
A California law that requires pharmacies to provide prescription medications but also allows pharmacists to "opt out of dispensing medications based on their beliefs ... is a great example of striking a balance that accommodates both patients and pharmacists," John Gans, executive vice president and CEO of the American Pharmacists Association, writes in a Washington Post letter to the editor. Gans writes, "Working together, pharmacists and their employers can establish viable medication solutions that serve the best interests of patients without violating the beliefs of the pharmacist" (Gans, Washington Post, 7/26).
