Computer Glitch Prevents Cigna HealthCare Members in Virginia from Filling Prescriptions
A problem with electronic transmission of patient eligibility information is making it difficult for some Cigna HealthCare members in Virginia to fill their prescriptions, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports. According to Cigna spokesperson Lynn Shepherd, a "technical issue" with an electronic file prevented Argus, the company that processes Cigna's pharmacy claims, from receiving complete member eligibility data earlier this week. The glitch has forced some Cigna plan members to either pay out of pocket for prescriptions or wait up to a day to have their coverage confirmed. Shepherd said that Cigna has corrected the problem and that the situation should be resolved by the end of the week. Although the company does not have specific numbers, Shepherd said that "a relatively small percentage" of Cigna's Virginia members experienced difficulties (Smith, Richmond Times-Dispatch, 1/10).
