CONSUMER CHOICE: Most Employees Lack Choice Of Plan
More than half of Americans with employer-sponsored health insurance are offered a single plan or allowed to choose between very similar plans, according to a survey conducted by Strategic Health Perspectives. Of 1,234 adults with such insurance coverage, 36% had no choice and 22% "had no real choice," meaning their employer offered plans that were essentially the same. Thirty-four percent of respondents indicated that they did have a "real choice of plans." The group conducted the interviews between June 30 and July 17, 1998 (Louis Harris & Associates, Inc. release, 3/12).
