Consumer Reports To Launch Prescription Drug Comparison Web Site
Consumer Reports on Dec. 9 will launch a new Best Buy Drugs Web site that will allow consumers at no cost to compare the cost and effectiveness of a number of commonly used prescription drugs, the AP/Detroit News reports.
Some states currently receive such prescription drug comparisons to allow their Medicaid programs to determine which medications to cover, and the Web site will make similar information available for low-income consumers, such as seniors and individuals who lack prescription drug coverage (AP/Detroit News, 12/2).
APM's "Marketplace" on Wednesday reported on the Web site. The segment includes comments from Jerry Avorn, a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and author of a book titled, "Powerful Medicines"; John Santa, assistant director for health projects at the Drug Effectiveness Review Project; and Dr. Sidney Wolfe, director of the Health Research Group at Public Citizen (Palmer, "Marketplace," APM, 12/1). The complete segment is available online in RealPlayer.
