CONTINUING EDUCATION: Site Offers Online Medical Training
Three Detroit physicians have launched an interactive Web-based training site, where medical students can study actual cases and doctors can earn continuing medical education credits. Morning Report Reviews offers about four to six cases each month that were seen at Detroit Receiving Hospital. Medical students and doctors who log onto the site can read the cases and answer questions. Those who correctly include 30-40% of the correct key words in their response to each question automatically advance through the case study. A wrong answer takes participants to the beginning of the question, where they can try again or read the sample answer. The site also features visuals, such as slides and X-rays, needed for participants to make a diagnosis. Dr. Lavoisier Cardozo, co-developer of the site and chief of medicine at Detroit Receiving Hospital, said, "The residents go through the cases they had the night before and each case is evaluated. It's a nice teaching format and it's something that helps them remember" (Bennett, Detroit Free Press, 5/25).
