Contra Costa County To Continue Operating George Miller Centers Until New Administrator Ready
Contra Costa County will continue operations at the George Miller Centers until Contra Costa ARC assumes administration of the centers, likely in October, the Contra Costa Times reports. Wendel Brunner, county director of public health, previously said that the county would cut its ties with the centers Sept. 30, regardless of Contra Costa ARC's preparedness.
Contra Costa ARC will begin assuming responsibility for operating the centers and providing services for their 454 children and adults with disabilities throughout September and October at sites in Concord and Richmond.
County officials announced their intention last year to turn over the $1.6 million-per-year program because of state budget issues. The county plans to lease the facilities to Contra Costa ARC for $1 a year (Rosen Lum, Contra Costa Times, 9/13).
