Cost of ‘Deferred Action’ Application Could Deter Calif. Immigrants From Qualifying for Health Coverage
Many California immigrants who qualify through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival program to purchase health insurance under the Affordable Care Act still could forego coverage because they cannot afford the $465 application fee for the program. Even for those who can afford the fee, the application process takes an average of four to six months to complete.
