County Health Department Must Reduce Spending by April
Contra Costa County Health Services must submit a spending plan to the county administrator by Feb. 24 detailing department efforts to reduce costs, the Contra Costa Times reports. However, reducing spending in some areas could lead to a loss of state and federal funding, which could prompt additional cuts.
The county is asking unions to accept wage freezes and changes in retirement benefits for new employees. Unions plan to protest the proposed changes on Tuesday.
The county in mid-April will hold public hearings on proposed health service cuts (Rosen Lum, Contra Costa Times, 2/14).
