County Releases Proposition 63 Spending Plan
Calaveras County officials on Monday released a plan to use Proposition 63 funds to improve mental health services, the Stockton Record reports. Proposition 63, approved by voters in 2004, levies a tax on millionaires to fund mental health services.
The county is expected to receive more than $600,000 annually from Proposition 63.
Under the plan, the county would hire nine full-time employees and four part-time employees to provide mental health services and expand recruitment of peer counselors and others who can aid mentally ill residents in finding care.
The new mental health system will aim to help mentally ill residents before crisis intervention is needed, the Record reports.
The plan will be open to public comment until May 18. County officials then will submit the plan for state approval (Nichols, Stockton Record, 4/18).
