Consumers Report Problems on Covered California Website
The Covered California website is experiencing problems just three weeks before the exchange's second open enrollment period is set to begin, the Sacramento Business Journal reports.
Details of Problems
According to the Business Journal, some insurance brokers have been unable to use the website to process:
- Changes to existing exchange accounts;
- Insurance renewals; and
- Special circumstances enrollment documents.
Edward Young, a certified enrollment agent, said the site "has no transaction capabilities."
Efforts To Address the Issues
Covered California performed maintenance on the site over the weekend, but the problems were not fixed, according to the Business Journal.
Exchange spokesperson Larry Hicks acknowledged that "[s]ome consumers are experiencing errors." Hicks said exchange officials are "investigating this and trying to figure out what the problem is," adding that the site "is working for some" (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 10/28).
However, in an email to a broker on Tuesday, Will Metcalf with Covered California wrote, "We do not currently have an ETA as to when this enrollment error will be corrected" (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 10/29).
