Database Project for Medi-Cal Claims a Bust in Sacramento County
Sacramento County still is using the same computer system for Medi-Cal mental health claims that it had in place in 2003 when it contracted with a vendor to develop a new system, the Sacramento Bee reports.
The database was slated to launch in fiscal year 2004-2005, according to a report by the county board of supervisors.
Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid system.
The county entered its original contract with Pennsylvania-based InfoMC in April 2003 and increased the contract amount twice.Â
InfoMC later subcontracted work on the database.
In total, the county paid InfoMC almost $4.6 million before terminating the contract in October 2006.
Lynn Frank, director of the county health and human services department, said that the county had considered a lawsuit but that a review of InfoMC's finances indicated that the county would not be able to recover its money (Lewis, Sacramento Bee, 2/19).
