Davis Signs Several Health Bills Into Law
Addressing measures passed during the legislative session that ended in September, Gov. Gray Davis (D) has signed the following health-related bills:

SB 111: Sponsored by Sen. Deirdre Alpert (D-San Diego), the measure allows nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives or physician assistants at community-based clinics to supervise tasks performed by medical assistants, provided they have "specific written instructions on the relevant tasks" from the clinic's physician (Office of the Governor release, 9/28).

AB 536: Sponsored by Assembly member Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Nigel), the measure changes pharmacy staffing requirements to permit more pharmacy technicians per pharmacist (Office of the Governor release, 9/28).

AB 1347: Sponsored by Assembly member Anthony Pescetti (R-Rancho Cordova), the measure establishes training requirements and "dementia-specific orientation" for certified nurse assistants who work at skilled nursing facilities and intermediate care facilities (Office of the Governor release, 9/25).
