Democratic Health Care Reform Plan Up for Vote
The Senate Health Committee on Wednesday is expected to approve Democratic legislative leaders' proposal to overhaul California's health care system, the San Francisco Chronicle reports (Colliver, San Francisco Chronicle, 7/11).
Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez (D-Los Angeles) and Senate President Pro Tempore Don Perata (D-Oakland) in June announced that they had merged their separate health care reform proposals into a single compromise bill, AB 8 (California Healthline, 6/22).
The measure would require employers to provide health insurance benefits to workers or pay into a state fund that would provide coverage (San Francisco Chronicle, 7/11).
