DHS Requests Medi-Cal Contract Extension for Molina Healthcare
The Department of Health Services has asked CMS for an extension on its Medi-Cal contract with Molina Healthcare while the department re-evaluates the HMO's provider list, the Business Press reports (Martin Tucker, Business Press, 11/14).
DHS in May awarded the contracts to Blue Cross of California, and Molina appealed the decision. The contracts, which cover more then 96,000 members, are valued at $111 million in annual revenue (California Healthline, 10/19).
DHS spokesperson Lea Brooks said, "We are in the process of seeking approval from CMS for a one-year, no-bid extension, or until the matter is resolved" to ensure continuous coverage for Medi-Cal beneficiaries.
Blue Cross officials did not comment on the re-evaluation, the Business Press reports (Business Press, 11/14).
