DMHC Levies $1.5M Against Anthem Blue Cross
The Department of Managed Health Care has levied a $1.5 million fine against Anthem Blue Cross of California for failing to pay for prenatal tests a state agency performed for 27,000 of its members over a nearly three-year period. Under an agreement with most commercial plans in California, the California Department of Public Health performs the blood test, which is used to determine if a fetus could be afflicted with Down Syndrome or Trisomy 18, and the insurer is required to cover the cost of about $162.
