Doctors and Nurses
SB 1151 by Sen. Don Perata (D-Oakland) was amended to require hospitals to establish health care worker back injury prevention plans. The bill also would require hospitals to use lift teams or devices to lift, reposition or transfer patients. In addition, it would provide that a health care worker can only be disciplined for refusing to lift a patient if the worker has been previously trained in lifting patients (Bill text, 5/20). The bill has been re-referred to the Senate Appropriations Committee (Bill text, 5/20).
