DRKOOP.COM: MillenniumHealth Merger Offer Withdrawn
Reston, Va.-based MillenniumHealth Communications Inc. yesterday called off its merger offer to ailing drkoop.com after the two online health information providers failed to agree on terms, the Washington Post reports. MillenniumHealth Chair and CEO William Danielczyk said, "We're very disappointed ... that we couldn't bring the two companies together. I wish them all the best. They need some help." Danielczyk offered no details on the issues that stopped negotiations between the two companies, and officials at drkoop.com refused to comment (Garretson, 8/1). Last week, Beverly Hills-based Undertherapy.com also publicly offered to buy drkoop.com. Founded in 1997 by former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, the company's stock initially sold as high as $45, but has hovered around $1 for the last several months (Mabin, AP/Nando Times/Sacramento Bee, 8/1).
