In an effort to save two tobacco-related bills (SB 7/AB 8, SB 5/AB 6) that would increase regulations for electronic cigarettes and raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco products from 18 to 21, "[s]ix tobacco-related bills were shifted ... from the Legislature's regular session to the special session on health care called by Gov. Jerry Brown (D), scheduled to begin Aug. 17," a San Diego Union-Tribune editorial states. It notes, "The process was hardly pretty," but "[i]f these bills can help reduce the problem, and they can, they deserve passage."
