FDA to ‘Crack Down’ on Illegal Sales of Cipro
The FDA has initiated a series of measures to "crack down" on illegal online Cipro sales "spurred" by the recent anthrax scare, AP/MSNBC reports. The FDA last Thursday issued an alert to U.S Customs that all private shipments of the antibiotic "arriving from overseas" are to be stopped at the border. In addition, AP/MSNBC reports that the agency is "poised" to begin sending warning letters to foreign Web sites offering the drug, ordering them to "immediately cease Cipro shipments" to the United States. If companies do not comply, the "next step" would be formal requests made to foreign health regulators (AP/MSNBC, 10/19).
