FIELD POLL: Public Supports Davis’ Health Care Stance Over Legislature
A Field Poll released today that shows 61% of Californians approve of Gov. Gray Davis' performance thus far also reveals that 37% of state residents are more inclined to support his position on health care than the Legislature's. Twenty-three percent favored the Legislature's approach, while 6% said they did not support either stance on health care and 34% said they had no opinion (Field Institute, 8/26). The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that "Davis enjoys the good fortune of presiding over a prosperous state which is churning out tax receipts faster than the state needs them." Although some claim Davis is too "cautious," he has "managed to steer clear of controversy" for the majority of his tenure. The poll is based on a telephone survey of 1,010 residents conducted between Aug. 16-23 and has a margin of error of +/- 3.2% (Marelius, 8/26).
