First 5 L.A. Awards $11M Grant to UCLA To Boost L.A. County Dental Care
On Wednesday, First 5 L.A. awarded the UCLA School of Dentistry an $11 million grant to improve community dental clinics in underserved areas of Los Angeles County, KPCC's "KPCC News" reports (Fox, "KPCC News," KPCC, 4/4).
The funds will help create the UCLA-First 5 L.A. Children's Dental Care Program -- or CDCP --Â which will provide dental care for children up to age five and pregnant women over the next five years (UCLA release, 4/3).
A portion of the funding will aid renovations and upgrades at certain health centers, such as adding more exam room space and dental chairs.
Additional funds will go toward:
- Training dental care providers; and
- Expanding community outreach efforts to raise awareness about the importance of dental hygiene.
