First Clinic for Women, Kids Opens in Ventura County
The Mandalay Bay Women and Children's Medical Group on Wednesday opened a new clinic in Oxnard that will provide pediatric and women's health services, the Ventura County Star reports. The group's original clinic, at a different location, only provided services for children.
Michelle Laba, a pediatrician and medical director for the new clinic, said the original clinic handled 10,000 patient visits annually with a staff of two pediatricians and five examination rooms.
The new clinic, five times larger, employs two OB-GYNs, four pediatricians and enough space for pediatric specialists in various fields, including:
- Neurology;
- Oncology;
- Orthopedic surgery; and
- Pulmonology.
The clinic expects to treat thousands of Ventura County women and children who are enrolled in Medi-Cal, Healthy Families and other public subsidized health care plans, as well as private and county plans.
The clinic is operated by the Ventura County Health Care Agency. The facility marks the first time that the agency is combining women's and pediatric services in one location (Klampe, Ventura County Star, 5/3).
