FOUNDATION HEALTH: Signs Quality Contract With Hawaii Company
Los Angeles-based Foundation Health Systems Inc. has contracted with the Hawaii Medical Service Association "to develop and implement a measurable quality system" for its Health Net HMO. The San Francisco Business Journal reports that the "Hawaii contract is a sign that smaller groups are looking to companies like Foundation, which is the nation's fourth-largest publicly traded health system, to handle their non-core areas, like quality control and assessment." Lisa Haines, spokesperson for Foundation, said: "What we're seeing in California is that employer groups are coming to the table with us to look at specific chronic diseases that affect their work force. We think it's a step in the future for us because its something that's definitely needed" (Bole, 6/29 issue). For California Healthline coverage of Foundation's earnings, click here.
