FPA MEDICAL MANAGEMENT: Dropped By Health Net
FPA Medical Management Inc. "will lose about one quarter of its business in Sacramento" as Health Net announced yesterday it will begin "directing its members elsewhere." The Sacramento Bee reports that Health Net said it was ending "most of its agreements" with FPA, a decision affecting about 12,000 Health Net members who are served by FPA-affiliated doctors. The Bee reports that these patients "will not see any changes because nearly every FPA-affiliated doctor also works with other medical groups that contract with Health Net." Ron Yukelson, spokesperson for Health Net, said, "This will be a transparent transaction. For 95% of those members, there will be no change. They will see the same doctors at the same facility." The Bee reports that Health Net "decided to distance" itself from FPA "because of concerns about whether the San Diego-based company will survive" (Young, 7/17).
