Garamendi Raises Health Care Issues in Campaign
Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi (D), who is running for lieutenant governor, on Wednesday criticized his Republican opponent for not supporting some measures endorsed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R), including several health care issues, the Oakland Tribune reports.
In a campaign release, Garamendi faulted Sen. Tom McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) for opposing:
- Funding to expand outreach and enrollment efforts for children's health insurance;
- A state prescription drug discount program; and
- Proposition 71, a 2004 ballot measure that provides state funds for stem cell research.
Jason Kinney, a Garamendi campaign consultant, said Garamendi supported these "popular and progressive initiatives that will move California forward" (Richman, Oakland Tribune, 9/28).
