GEORGE W. BUSH: Group Airs Ad on GOP Abortion Stance
Although Republicans for Choice will not roll out its new radio ad until two weeks before this summer's Republican National Convention, the group released the ad to the press in time for Mother's Day, telling GOP presidential hopeful Texas Gov. George W. Bush (R) to "listen to your mama" and keep abortion out of the GOP platform. The announcer in the 30-second radio ad points out that former First Lady Barbara Bush has said of the platform's antiabortion plank: "I don't think it should be in the national platform." The announcer, a member of Republicans for Choice, agrees, adding, "We think that both George W. Bush and the GOP should heed her, not Pat Robertson and Ralph Reed. Listen to your mama. That's a family value we can all agree on." To listen to the ad, click here or type http://video.cloakroom.com/2000archive/05/0516rfc1.rm in your Web browser. NOTE: You must have RealPlayer to hear the ad (National Journal Group, 5/16).
