Governor’s Re-election Campaign Focuses on Accomplishments
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's (R) re-election campaign on Monday released its first television advertisement of 2006, which stresses his administration's accomplishments, including workers' compensation reform and reducing the state deficit, the Contra Costa Times reports (Folmar, Contra Costa Times, 3/28).
According to Schwarzenegger, the workers' compensation reforms have reduced premiums to businesses by more than 40% (Office of the Governor release, 3/27). A recent state report found that the reforms reduced costs to businesses by up to $8.1 billion.
However, some lawmakers and unions now say the reforms have reduced benefits too drastically for permanently disabled workers and others, the Orange County Register reports (Sarhaddi Nelson, Orange County Register, 3/27).
