Grant Funds Telemedicine Expansion at UC-Davis
The UC-Davis Children's Hospital will use part of a $500,000 grant from Aetna to expand its critical-care telemedicine program, Healthcare IT News reports.
The program was the first of its kind in the country, providing specialty care to acutely ill and injured children living in nonurban areas.
UC-Davis specialists use video and Internet technology to connect with emergency department doctors at smaller hospitals that have fewer resources. The telemedicine system allows physicians to view one another, patients and medical records.
The hospital also will use the Aetna grant to expand its pediatric intensive care unit (Merrill, Healthcare IT News, 1/11).
