GUBERNATORIAL RACE: Checchi Calls For Home Care Tax Break
At a Sacramento meeting of the Democratic Leadership Council, gubernatorial candidate Al Checchi "proposed a series of tax breaks," including a "senior citizen home care" tax credit, the Sacramento Bee reports. The credit would be provided for "up to half the cost of home health care for a dependent senior." Checchi also proposed tax relief for child care expenses, college tuition and first-time home buyers. "Checchi said the state's growing economy would pay for the tax breaks," the Bee reports, "although he did not categorically rule out raising taxes." Checchi said, "We have under-invested for 30 or 40 years. ... It is now time to reinvest in our society" (Smith, 2/25).
