HARRY LOW: Takes Oath as Insurance Commissioner
Retired appellate Judge Harry Low was sworn in Monday as the replacement for former Insurance Commissioner Chuck Quackenbush, the AP/Los Angeles Times reports. Promising to "restore public trust" in his position as insurance commissioner, Low stated, "Our goal is to make California's Insurance Commission the best of any in this nation." Low was appointed by Gov. Gray Davis (D) after Quackenbush resigned earlier this summer under threat of impeachment. "I'm committed to making our work as open and responsive to the public as possible," Low said. Low will serve the remaining two years of Quackenbush's second four-year term, but has "not ruled out" running for the position in 2002 (9/19).
