HEALTH CARE BANKING: Montgomery’s Focus Likely to Shift
NationsBanc Montgomery Securities' "ailing health care practice" is "putting up big bucks to rebuild" itself and is expected to shift its focus from biotechnology to HMOs. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the company's "new strategy is to focus on raising capital for existing commercial clients ... many of which are HMOs and physician practice firms." Montgomery has also brought in fresh talent -- two top investment bankers from Morgan Stanley's health care services group -- "in an attempt to rebuild Montgomery's decimated health care ranks" (Veverka, 2/12).
