Health Care Personnel Update for December 2007
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) appointed Shirley Wheat (R) of Irvine to the California Board of Pharmacy.
Since 2006, Wheat has served as a small-business consultant in private practice. She previously worked as a campaign manager and for the Republican National Committee. Senate confirmation is not required for the position, which provides compensation of $100 per diem.
Schwarzenegger appointed Catherine Halverson (D) of Bethesda, Md., as deputy director of health care operations for the Department of Health Care Services.
Since 2004, Halverson has served as principal of Halverson Consulting, which serves Medicaid managed care organizations. Senate confirmation is not required for the position, which offers annual compensation of $126,588 (Office of the Governor release, 12/18).
Schwarzenegger appointed Louis Koff (D) of Helendale administrator of the West Los Angeles Veterans' Home for the California Department of Veterans Affairs. Koff currently serves as administrator of the Barstow Veterans' Home. Senate confirmation is not required for the position, which offers annual compensation of $114,024.
The governor appointed Jaime Todd (R) of Sierra Madre administrator of the Barstow Veterans' Home. Todd previously served as chief operating officer for California PEO Homes. Senate confirmation is not required for the position, which provides annual compensation of $100,428 (Office of the Governor release, 12/20).
John Nilon began serving as director of Kern County's Department of Public Health Services on Dec. 12, 2007. Nilon will share leadership of the department with interim Public Health Officer Claudia Jonah.
Nilon has worked for the county since 1985 and has held leadership positions in the Human Services and Employers' Training Resource departments. His base annual salary for the new position is $157,000 (Burger, Bakersfield Californian, 12/4).
Colleen Brock has been named executive director of Woodland Healthcare Foundation. Brock previously served as executive director of the Elderly Nutrition Program/Meals on Wheels in Yolo County (Sacramento Bee, 12/17).
