Howard Hughes Medical Institute
Robert Tijan has been named president of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Maryland, the New York Times reports.
Tijan currently serves as a professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at UC-Berkeley.
Tijan will assume the position on April 1, 2009 (Chang, New York Times, 9/30).
UC-Davis Medical Center
The UC Board of Regents has approved Vincent Johnson as chief operating officer of UC-Davis Medical Center, the Sacramento Bee reports.
Johnson's annual salary will be $450,000, and he is due to begin his position at UC-Davis Medical Center on Oct. 27.
Johnson most recently served as vice president of administration at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla. (Lofing, Sacramento Bee, 9/22).
