Health Net Income Down 41% Since Last Year, Despite Enrollment Boost From ACA
Woodland Hills-based Health Net has reported a 41% drop in net income, falling to $28.8 million in the first quarter of 2014 from $50 million in Q1 2013. Despite an rise in enrollment through the Affordable Care Act, the insurer faced higher costs for some prescription drugs, such as those used to treat hepatitis, and other issues that increased expenses.
