Health Net To Oversee Medi-Cal Managed Care Benefits in Central Calif.
The Fresno-Kings-Madera Regional Health Authority has selected Health Net to administer a regional Medi-Cal managed care plan called CalViva Health, Payers & Providers reports. Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program.
Under the contract, Health Net is expected to oversee benefits for about 150,000 Medi-Cal beneficiaries and residents dually eligible for Medi-Cal and Medicare in Fresno, Kings and Madera counties.
Dave Meadows, vice president of state health programs for Health Net, estimated the value of the CalViva contract at about $225 million per yearÂ (Payers & Providers, 4/29).
Edward Moreno, chief administrator of the regional health authority, said commissioners from the three counties will direct Health Net in its administration of the managed care plan (Anderson, Fresno Bee, 4/27).
Health Net already has established a network of Medi-Cal providers in the area. The insurer plans to set up satellite offices in Kings and Madera Counties in addition to its current office in Fresno.
Beneficiaries To See Choice of Plans
Anthem Blue Cross of California also offers a Medi-Cal managed care plan in the region (Payers & Providers, 4/29).
In June, Medi-Cal beneficiaries will start receiving information about their managed care options.Enrollment for the programs will start in August and coverage will begin in October. Beneficiaries who do not select a managed care plan will be assigned one (Fresno Bee, 4/27).
