Health Trust Grants Aim To Boost Health of Silicon Valley Residents
The Health Trust will invest $30 million in three initiatives aimed at improving the health and wellness of Silicon Valley residents, the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal reports.
The not-for-profit advocacy group said it hopes the investment will make Silicon Valley "the healthiest region in America."
Frederick Ferrer, CEO of The Health Trust, cited several health care problems affecting the region, including an aging population that he says the county health system lacks the capacity to help.
Health Trust will fund initiatives that:
- Focus on improving physical activity, employee wellness programs and healthier eating;
- Aim to support independent living for seniors by improving hospital-to-home transitions and helping caregivers through training and support; and
- Increase prevention and management of chronic disease, recruitment and training of a diverse health care work force and efforts to expand health insurance coverage (Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal, 1/24).
