HEALTHY FAMILIES: 250,000 Children Enrolled
California First Lady Sharon Davis Tuesday announced that more than 250,000 children have been enrolled in the state's Healthy Families Program for low-income, uninsured children. Mrs. Davis said the milestone "represents 250,000 children who now have a healthy shot at success in life, and all of their parents who now have the peace of mind that comes with not having to worry when their child has the slightest cough or gets into the most minor of accidents." Mrs. Davis also said that the Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board last week authorized 32 new contracts for program services. In addition, the federal HHS recently approved an amendment to the program that allows a third party, called a Family Contribution Sponsor, to pay a specific child's premiums for the first year of enrollment (Office of the Governor release, 3/21).
