Healthy Families Enrolls 100,000 Children in Four Months
Healthy Families has enrolled 100,000 children in the past four months, bringing the total count to more than 450,000 children by the end of July. Between March and June, the program enrolled an average of 25,000 new patients per month; in May, the number of new enrollees reached 28,000. Monthly enrollment since March is 19% higher than the previous 12-month average and 60% higher than the monthly average since the program's beginning. Gov. Gray Davis (D) said, "This is wonderful news. Our outreach programs and our efforts to streamline and simplify the application process and expand eligibility to more children are paying off. More children are now participating in our Healthy Families insurance program and receiving the health care coverage they need." In May, the Davis administration submitted an application to HHS for a waiver that would expand Healthy Families coverage to parents of enrolled children. Federal approval is pending (Office of the Governor release, 8/16).
