HHS Approves Medi-Cal Plans for Continuous Eligibility
HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson yesterday announced the approval of continuous eligibility for children enrolled in Medi-Cal. Under the approved change, children enrolled in Medi-Cal will remain enrolled in the program for one year, regardless of increases in their families' income that would exceed the program's eligibility limits. Continuous eligibility will "double the average length of time children are enrolled," allowing an additional 390,000 children to remain eligible for Medi-Cal each month. Around 2.6 million children are enrolled in Medi-Cal (HHS release, 6/28).
