HHS: New Web Site Lets Counties Compare Health Indicators
A new HHS-sponsored Web site will allow officials and residents in 3,082 counties nationwide to access and compare causes of death, incidence of infectious diseases, numbers of teen mothers and other health indicators. With the information, counties can measure themselves against each other in areas such as life expectancy and percent of adults who report being in fair or poor health. The Web site, which covers health data from 1988-1998, was funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration and produced in collaboration with the National Association of County and City Health Officials, the National Association of State and Territorial Health Officials and the Public Health Foundation. The Web site is accessible at http://www.communityhealth.hrsa.gov (HRSA release, 8/7).
