HHS’ OIG Investigating ACA’s Health Insurance Exchanges
On Tuesday, HHS Inspector General Daniel Levinson said his office is conducting "30 to 40 audits and evaluations" of the insurance exchanges created under the Affordable Care Act, with some reports on HealthCare.gov expected to be released in "the next few weeks," the Washington Post' s "Federal Eye" reports (Hicks, "Federal Eye," Washington Post, 12/2).
He said the HHS Office of Inspector General is investigating both the federal exchange and some state exchanges. However, he declined to specify which state exchanges are being examined.
Specifically, Levinson said some of the exchange audits and evaluations involve issues regarding:
- Eligibility;
- Payment systems; and
- Security (Ferris, The Hill, 12/2).
Levinson added that some of the requests for exchange evaluations came from HHS, while others came from Congress ("Federal Eye," Washington Post, 12/2).
